Book Review – Fever Claim: A Wolf Shifter Romance, by Marie Johnston

Welcome, thank you for joining us. I want to share with you a little about this book. I have to say I loved it. It will suck you in, which are the books I love to read. I do have to say it is sweltering and steamy. Maybe not “Shades of Grey” steamy. But none the less it gets heated.

If you would like to read the post, please scroll down past the video.

A human named Cassie called her friend Kaitlyn for a night out at Kaitlyn’s favorite hangout. She wanted to drink away the memory of Cassie’s ex-finance, who just broke off their engagement two weeks before the wedding. Upset, how could that man dumb her, she leaned over the bar to the attention of the hot bartender to order an “Absolutely screwed, please.” At the same time, her friend Kaitlyn was dancing on the dance floor.

Taking a drink, Kaitlyn came over to inform Cassie that the guy she has been dancing with has a hot ride and offered her to join him. She wanted to be adventurous, but she wanted to make sure Cassie was going to be ok.

Not wanting to be the third wheel, Cassie told Kaitlyn to go and enjoy herself that she would get herself home. The hot bartender listening stated she wasn’t driving after all the drinks she had. Fine, I’ll call a cab she replied. How about I drive you home, then you don’t have to worry about coming back to your car in the morning. Cassie tried to object, but the hot bartender wasn’t having no for an answer.

Cassie gave him directions until they arrived at her house. As they walked through the door, things turned hot in a matter of minutes, with Jace, the hot bartender spending the night. The next morning, she believed he had left to find him cooking in her kitchen. The phone rang, answering, her best friend is distraught and in need of her help. Doing her best, she explains her current location. Luckily enough, the hot bartender hears the conversation. He knows the place of her friend. Taking out his phone, he made a call while she changed her clothes.

Now, in her car, they head for the area that Kaitlyn is. Driving passed the bar. Jace turned down a road. It wasn’t too long before files of stone came into view. Pulling up to the buildings, they got out went in search of Kaitlyn. Jace could smell her grabbing Cassie’s hand. He led her over to her friend. Leaving them together, he went to inspect the area. Jace smelled them running back to Cassie and Kaitlyn.

Wide-eyed, Kaitlyn stood next to the building, looking down on her best friend, who is now a large wolf. She was growling at two men standing before them as she pressed Cassie against the wall in a protective manner.

Jace was seeing the men he stated, “Mate” louder than he planned to. He walked over to where Kaitlyn and Cassie were. The men took out their guns, taking down Kaitlyn, before escorting them to a vehicle. One took Cassie’s car as the others got into an SUV. They took them to the Guardian Headquarters, where they got interrogated before being released so Jace could talk with Cassie about what she had learned that he was a shifter. Plus, the fact that he was her mate. It didn’t go the way he had planned it.

Cassie wanted to go home. There was no need for her to stay with the Guardian’s anymore since she was a mere human. One of the Guardians went to open the door for her when bullets started flying. Getting down, Jace jumped in front of Cassie to protect her, then stuffed her in the closet to keep her safe, which didn’t work out. She had to fight to get into trouble. Kaitlyn showed up in time to save her life.

Back at her house, she resumed her life, putting everything behind her. Little did she know someone was watching her every move. Ignoring Jace, she wasn’t ready to be mated to someone for life. Not sure what her future was going to hold, determined it would be her choice.

Jace went back to work at the bar, plus he began to train with the Guardians. He was giving her time, learning a long time ago the hard way not to push things after three weeks of waiting, not able to take it any longer. Walking into her office where she worked, persuading the assistant to book him for the last appointment, before telling her she could go home for the night. He didn’t want any disruptions when he faced Cassie.

The last client of the day, the door opened, she swung around in her chair to greet her new client. Shocked seeing Jace walk around her desk, well, we just things got intense… as things feel off the desk. Afterward, they agreed to a real date the next night.

Jace left satisfied he was finally going to have a date with his mate. She had agreed. It was a chance to win her heart.

The date went great, though there was a bit of trouble, which you will have to read the book to find out the rest. I can tell you everything, that wouldn’t be fair to the author. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
